Homegrown

Homegrown is a collaboration between local elementary school classrooms and businesses. The idea is to introduce the students to real-life problems that businesses are facing and to introduce them to some of today’s most in-demand careers.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN…

  • Building deep and lasting partnerships between your business and the local schools?
  • Exposing students to the changing nature of your industry and work in general?
  • Connecting what your business does with what is being taught in the classroom?
  • If you’ve answered YES, consider being paired with a local educator to create and implement a project that explores a real-life issue/opportunity at your business.

This program is held in the fall and spring, with a timeline of about 3 weeks with business commitment being about 6 hours spread out over the 3 weeks. The process within the 3 weeks includes the following:

  2. Students to tour the company at the beginning of the process – 1 hour
  3. Set up a time for the students to work onsite for 1 hour
  4. Set up a time for business partners to come into the classroom to give feedback on the student solutions – 1 hour
  5. Evening Showcase at the end to invite students, parents and teachers to the business for the students to present their outcome – 1 hour
